  • Gordian Knot Literary Magazine

Calling all trouble makers and problem solvers:

Gordian Knot is a student-run publication that comes out quarterly with issues of student work.  It is not an ordinary literary magazine, but rather a forum for all breeds of expression that celebrate inspirational and groundbreaking ideas which, like in the legend of Alexander the Great, slice through the gordian knot– the unsolvable problem– with elegance, cunning, force, or plain old dumb-luck.  Be you a writer, reader, philosopher, mathematician, biologist, theologist, classicist, economist, musician, or undecided, we’re sure you have something to offer this publication.
Two weeks ago, Gordian Knot kicked into gear for the 2009/10 school year. We started a blog (gknot on Tumblr), perused past issues (gknot at uchicago), brainstormed a new look, and started spreading the word (gknot on Facebook). As midterms approach, it’s time for us to start putting together the latest (and greatest!) issue of Gordian Knot — which means we’d like you to give us what you’ve got!
Traditionally, each issue of Gordian Knot is organized around a theme.  Past issues have explored ideas of (non)servitude, history, and travel; last year’s issue Rose from the Dead. The themes are flexible and variable, which is exactly why we pick ‘em. THIS upcoming issue’s theme is PROCESS. Take it in any way you like, so long as you exercise your innovation. Whether it be artistic, social, developmental, agricultural, culinary, mathematical, scientific, historic, prehistoric, futuristic– tell us what you have to say about process. We want to see it. Talk about it with all of your friends. We want to see what they have to say, too.
Submissions are due November 20th. Send them to gordianknotchicago@gmail.com.
Please limit 3 submissions and know that pages in the magazine are relatively few, so shorter works are suggested, but not required.
Looking forward to a great issue!– yours,

Gabija Blaudziunas, Claire Rabkin, CJ Morello
